Senior Iranian Source Tells Reuters: No Talks Underway to Extend Ceasefire With US
12 August 2026 | 2 months ago
According to Fars News, in a report carried on Wednesday, August 12, 2026 (21 Mordad 1405), Reuters cited a senior Iranian source as saying no talks are underway on extending a ceasefire with the United States. The source said that from Iran's perspective, the ceasefire never had a defined start date in the first place, so there is nothing to extend.
The same report said the source recalled that the United States violated the previous interim agreement just 48 hours after it was reached and withdrew from it days later. The remarks come as the state of the ceasefire and the Strait of Hormuz directly affect global oil prices and the prospects for reopening Persian Gulf shipping routes.
