Mohammad Hadi Sobhanian, deputy economy minister and head of Iran's tax administration, said at a joint news conference with the government spokesman at the tax organization's building on Tuesday 13 October 2026 (21 Mehr 1405) that tax collection in the first six months of this year has been favourable. By his account, about 38.2 percent of the tax revenue projected for the whole year had been collected by the end of that period.

Sobhanian said that in previous years 35 to 40 percent of a year's tax revenue was usually collected in the first half. He added that about 70 percent of the government's current spending is funded through taxes, and that the tax system had to balance raising government revenue against keeping economic activity going under wartime conditions.
The tax chief said that since the war began late last year, deadlines for almost all tax obligations that fell due during the fighting were extended and many statutory duties were approved or postponed, to support businesses that suffered direct or indirect damage. He credited the digitisation of the tax system in recent years for the result. The figures are official statements from the tax administration, and a detailed breakdown has not yet been published.
