Kambiz Nazerian, chief executive of the Greater Tehran Electricity Distribution Company, said on Monday, July 27, 2026 that cooperation from subscribers has produced a 10 percent reduction in the capital's electricity demand during peak load hours.
He said peak hour electricity demand in the capital had run to more than 5,935 megawatts, and put the resulting saving at over 600 megawatts, equivalent to the practical output of a 1,000 megawatt power plant. Nazerian added that on the peak load day Tehran's energy requirement reached about 111 million kilowatt hours, of which more than 97 percent was delivered to subscribers as uninterrupted power, with only around 3 percent covered through load management programmes.
He said the application of load restriction programmes depends on the state of the national grid and the balance of energy supply and demand, and asked the city's more than 5 million electricity subscribers to continue their cooperation.
