The Free-Market Dollar in Tehran Moves Past 240,000 Tomans

The US dollar rose for a second straight day in Tehran's free market on Monday morning, 6 Mehr 1405 (September 28, 2026). According to Donya-e-Eqtesad, by around 11:30 the dollar had climbed above the previous day's closing rate to 240,380 tomans. Alanchand put the rate at 241,200 tomans at the same hour, up 5,150 tomans (2.18 percent) from Sunday, 5 Mehr, with a 24-hour high of 241,700. Sahmino's recorded prices showed the dollar at 240,500 tomans (2.34 percent above the previous day) and Tether (USDT) at about 242,000 tomans.

The dollar's climb carried into gold and coins: the Emami gold coin was quoted at between 241.5 and 243 million tomans depending on the source, and a gram of 18-karat gold at about 24.1 million tomans, even though global spot gold fell about 3 percent over the same hours to $4,153 an ounce. Alanchand said the dollar is 4.33 percent more expensive than a week ago.
