Trump Asks Zelensky to Scale Back Strikes on Russian Refineries
28 September 2026 · 10 days ago
US President Donald Trump said, in remarks published early on Monday, 6 Mehr 1405, that in a conversation with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky he had asked him to reduce attacks on Russia's fuel and energy sector, especially its oil refineries. Speaking on the sidelines of a golf tournament near Chicago, Trump quoted Zelensky as replying: "OK, maybe we will do that."
Trump also said the US administration is seriously considering a ban on diesel exports to counter rising prices, acknowledging that such a decision could lead to a limited increase in gasoline prices, although some officials in his administration are examining alternatives.
Russian and Ukrainian strikes on each other's energy infrastructure are continuing, and the remarks come as the global oil products market faces a diesel supply shortfall and Brent reached about $107 on Monday morning.
