US President Donald Trump said on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, on the sidelines of the NATO leaders' summit in Ankara, that the ceasefire between the United States and Iran is "over." According to NPR, Trump said negotiating with Iran was a waste of time and called the other side liars, though he noted that his special envoy Steve Witkoff and his son-in-law Jared Kushner still want to continue talks. The remarks came after a fresh exchange of strikes between the two countries on July 6 and 7 and immediately moved markets: CNBC reported that US stocks fell in early trading and Brent crude jumped about 5.4 percent to settle near $78 a barrel on concerns of renewed disruption in the Strait of Hormuz.
