UK Annual House Price Growth Slowed to 1.8% in July

Nationwide Building Society reported in its house price index on Friday, 31 July 2026, that UK annual house price growth slowed to 1.8% in July, down from 2.2% in June. Prices were up just 0.1% month on month in July.
In the same report, Nationwide said the average time a household spends in a home in the UK is 14 years, rising to 24 years for those who own their property outright and falling to 5 years in the private rented sector. It also found that three quarters of residential moves in 2024 and 2025 were between homes of the same tenure type.
The trend over recent months has been uneven: UK annual house price growth was reported at 3% in April, 1.7% in May and 2.2% in June.
