US New Home Sales Rose 1.6% in June but Were 5.6% Lower Than a Year Earlier

Sales of new single-family homes in the United States rose to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 628,000 in June 2026, 1.6% above the May pace, according to data released on Friday, 24 July, by the U.S. Census Bureau. Even so, sales were down 5.6% from June a year earlier.
The median price of a new home in June was $398,300, 2.7% lower than a year earlier, and the supply of homes for sale was estimated at 9.3 months. Sales rose in the South, Northeast and Midwest but fell 22.4% in the West. The figure is among the indicators investors watch to gauge the path of Federal Reserve interest rates.
