Water Productivity Market Bylaw Clears a Government Subcommittee, Giving Water Savings a Financial Value

Isa Bozorgzadeh, spokesman for Iran's water industry, said on Saturday, September 26, 2026 that the bylaw for a water productivity market was approved last week by the government's planning and budget subcommittee and now goes to the main committee and then the full cabinet. He said the process is expected to take about a month.

Under the scheme, any citizen, industrial user or farmer who cuts water use or raises water productivity in a way that can be proven and verified could receive a financial benefit in return. Bozorgzadeh said the aim is for water-saving measures to carry economic value on top of their effect on water resources.
