AbanTether Says US Sanction Creates No New Restriction, User Assets Remain Secure
8 August 2026 · 2 months ago
Iranian crypto exchange AbanTether issued a statement on Saturday, 17 Mordad 1405 (8 August 2026), a day after the US Treasury's Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) sanctioned it on August 7, to clarify the action for users. The statement said OFAC designated AbanTether solely because it had processed transactions with other already sanctioned Iranian exchanges, including Nobitex, Wallex, Bitpin and Ramzinex, under Executive Order 13902 for operating in Iran's financial sector.
AbanTether said this order differs from Executive Order 13224 and does not create any new restriction on US companies dealing with Iran, so the exchange's operations continue as before, adding that the security of user assets remains its priority.
