Central Bank Moves to Regulate Unlicensed Crypto Exchanges as Platforms Deny Reports of Account Freezes

Citing a Tasnim reporter, Iran's Central Bank is reviewing, through one of its committees, the status of crypto exchanges operating without its license, a move running alongside an already implemented restriction on overnight tether trading. Since 9 p.m. on Wednesday, Mehr 8, 1405 (September 30, 2026), exchanges including Nobitex have halted overnight tether to toman trading and capped each user's daily purchases at 2,000 USDT, a restriction that, per Nobitex's own notice, runs through Sunday, Mehr 12 (today, October 4). Separately, Fars News reported on Saturday, Mehr 11, that the Central Bank, citing "artificial order placement" by some exchanges that distorts tether and foreign exchange pricing, is considering freezing their bank accounts and payment gateways. In response, exchanges including Bit24, Wallex and Kif Pool Man denied the report, saying their services, including rial and crypto deposits and withdrawals, continue uninterrupted and as usual.
