Santiment Data: Bitcoin Retail Holders Selling at Fastest Pace Since December 2024 as Whales Accumulate
8 August 2026 · 2 months ago
On-chain analytics platform Santiment said, in a report carried by Arzdigital on Saturday, 17 Mordad 1405 (8 August 2026), that small bitcoin holders are reducing their holdings at the fastest pace since December 2024, while bitcoin traded in a range of 63,000 to 65,000 dollars. The report said small addresses are selling partly because of the Coldcard hardware wallet hack and ongoing regulatory uncertainty, while the number of active bitcoin addresses reached 712,000 in a week, the highest in three months, and transactions above 100,000 dollars hit a five month record.
CoinDesk independently reported that, following the Coldcard security incident, about 210,000 bitcoin moved out of long dormant wallets, and that whales bought more than 1.2 billion dollars of bitcoin over the same period. Santiment concluded that this divergence between retail and whale behavior makes a rise above 70,000 dollars more likely than a drop below 60,000 dollars.
