Abdolnasser Hemmati, Governor of Iran's central bank, told a meeting with members of the Iran Entrepreneurs Association on Sunday, Shahrivar 1, 1405 (August 23, 2026), that monthly inflation in Mordad (the month ending August 22) was about 4 percent, while liquidity growth stood at 55 to 56 percent. According to Donya-e-Eqtesad, published Sunday night, that reading puts year on year inflation for Mordad at 84.9 percent, up 0.9 percentage points from the prior 84 percent level, though it marks a slowdown in the pace of price growth compared with previous months. The report said monthly inflation ran at 7 to 8.5 percent during the spring months of the Iranian year before easing to 3.6 percent in Tir (the month ending July 22) as tensions eased. Hemmati also said the country's foreign exchange reserves have strengthened since Bahman of last year (roughly February 2026), adding that the central bank has supplied an average of $175 million a day in foreign currency since the start of the Iranian year, versus about $205 million a day in the same period last year.
