Customs Halts Plate Numbering for Cars of Iranians Living Abroad Until Their Value Is Set

12 October 2026 | 7 days ago

In a new circular reported by Mehr on Monday, 12 October 2026 (20 Mehr 1405), Iran's Customs Administration told its executive customs offices to stop sending declaration data for cars owned by Iranians living abroad for plate numbering until the valuation workgroup under note 6 of the car law has set their value.

According to the circular, the Ministry of Industry, Mining and Trade has said valuing these cars is a priority on the workgroup's agenda and that the process will be completed within one month at most. Once the value is set, customs offices must proceed according to the relevant rules and criteria. Responsibility for carrying out the notice rests with the most senior official of each executive customs office.

EcoIran also reported the halt, writing that numbering stays suspended until the final value is entered in the Value Information Bank (TSC) and approved by the industry ministry. Until the value is announced, final clearance and plating of these cars is effectively on hold.
