Dollar and Emami gold coin rise together in Tehran as regional tensions escalate

Tehran's currency and gold markets trended higher on Wednesday, September 9, 2026 (18 Shahrivar 1405), through 11:29 Tehran time. According to live tgju.org data, the free market dollar rose about 30,050 rials (1.33 percent) from the previous day to 229,705 tomans, while the euro gained 1.56 percent to 268,400 tomans. At the same time, the full Emami gold coin rose 4,990,000 tomans (2.12 percent) to 239,985,000 tomans, and the global gold ounce gained 1.22 percent to 4,411.61 dollars. The rise came alongside escalating regional tensions, including sharply intensified fighting between Saudi Arabia and Yemen's Houthi forces, which Riyadh said on Tuesday had wounded at least 73 people, and a statement from Iran's IRGC Navy that it had seized an unmanned American submersible in the Strait of Hormuz.
