Tehran's Currency and Coin Market Rises Amid Regional Tensions

8 September 2026 · 29 days ago

The Tehran free market dollar rate and the Emami gold coin price climbed further on Tuesday, 17 Shahrivar 1405 (September 8, 2026), compared with figures reported earlier the same morning. Live data from the TGJU financial information network showed the free dollar up 1.52 percent to about 225,470 tomans at 15:25 local time, while Sahmino's own tracked data recorded a 1.83 percent rise to about 226,170 tomans at 15:56. Ecoiran reported the dollar up 1.3 percent to 227,000 tomans and the Emami coin up 1.6 percent, or 3,800,000 tomans, to 232,800,000 tomans over the same window, and Donya-e-Eqtesad had put the dollar at 227,420 tomans in a report timestamped 14:44. These readings mark a clear rise from the roughly 223,700 to 223,970 toman range reported earlier the same morning. According to Ecoiran, the rise coincided with global oil prices nearing 100 dollars a barrel following a reported attack on a Saudi oil facility, and with the second day of the International Atomic Energy Agency Board of Governors meeting in Vienna, which has raised market expectations of intensified pressure on Iran. Iran's central bank separately said it will offer 100,000 gold coins on the Iran Mercantile Exchange on Wednesday, 18 Shahrivar, to help prevent speculative swings in the market.
