A wallet holding 40 bitcoin that had sat untouched since November 2011 turned an initial investment of about $120 into more than $3.09 million, a gain of more than 2,571,899 percent. The largest transaction involved a wallet holding 146.06 bitcoin, worth about $11.31 million, that had been dormant since November 2013 and posted a return of nearly 12,902 percent. Two smaller wallets dating to early 2011, holding a combined 16.78 bitcoin, were also reactivated.
Per the report, at least one of the addresses transferred 6.78 bitcoin directly to the Coinbase exchange, a possible sign of intent to sell. Some of the wallets carry a tag linked to a New York legal case known as Noah Doe, related to determining ownership of abandoned assets on the blockchain.
