Emami coin retreats to 184 million tomans on Tuesday 6 Mordad as its premium compresses to about 1.7 percent

28 July 2026 · 2 months ago

Tehran's coin market gave back the previous day's gain on Tuesday, 28 July 2026 (6 Mordad 1405). In the 17:40 Tehran time update, the full Emami coin stood at 184,000,000 tomans, down 1,500,000 tomans or 0.81 percent from Monday 5 Mordad's 185,500,000 tomans. Sahmino's own price board recorded the Emami coin at 183,990,000 tomans, down 0.82 percent, at 17:39 the same day. According to the daily archive of the Gold and Currency Information Network, the Emami coin had closed Monday, 5 Mordad, at 185,495,000 tomans, up 2.21 percent. Its 24 hour range was 181,500,000 to 185,500,000 tomans.

The decline reached the whole coin family: the Bahar Azadi at 180,000,000 tomans, down 0.55 percent, the half coin at 94,500,000 tomans, down 1.05 percent, and the quarter coin at 53,000,000 tomans, down 1.85 percent. At the same hour, however, a gram of 18 carat gold was 0.74 percent higher at 18,348,000 tomans.

What distinguishes this session is the divergence between coins and bullion. The Emami coin's premium (the gap between its market price and the intrinsic value of its gold content) narrowed to 3,020,000 tomans, or 1.67 percent, while the quarter coin's premium remained at 16.63 percent. The two external drivers pulled in opposite directions: at 17:40 spot gold stood at $4,022.34 an ounce, down 1.46 percent, and silver at $56.84, down 2.90 percent, while the free market dollar on Sahmino's board at 17:39 rose 1.55 percent to 190,915 tomans. Gold's price in Iran is the product of the global ounce and the free market dollar rate; the falling ounce and the rising dollar largely cancelled each other out, and what pushed coins lower was the compression of the premium after Monday's jump.
