France warns that renewed Persian Gulf tensions threaten regional security

Eghtesad Online reported in the early hours of Wednesday 29 July 2026 that France had issued a warning over escalating tensions in the Persian Gulf, saying a resumption of hostilities in the region would weaken the diplomatic progress achieved through the understanding between Iran and the United States and would threaten regional security.
The Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz are the main route for the region's exports of crude and refined products to world markets. European positions on the security of that waterway matter to the market because they feed into how insurers and vessel owners assess the risk of transiting the route.
The warning was published alongside wider diplomatic activity, including a telephone conversation between Iran's foreign minister and the European Union's foreign policy chief on ways to reduce tensions in the region, also reported by the same outlet.
