In Parliament: Talks With Oman Over the Strait of Hormuz Do Not Mean Its Reopening
14 August 2026 | 2 months ago
Behnam Saeedi, a member of the presiding board of the Iranian parliament's National Security and Foreign Policy Committee, said in a televised interview reported by Khabaronline, citing Mehr News Agency, on Friday, August 14, 2026 (23 Mordad 1405), that Iran's ongoing talks with Oman over the Strait of Hormuz concern only a temporary transit arrangement and should not be interpreted as a reopening of the waterway.
He said a full reopening of the strait will not be possible as long as the United States continues its naval blockade, and that the temporary arrangement under discussion with Oman does not change that situation. He added that reopening the waterway depends on the United States accepting the conditions and measures the Islamic Republic of Iran has set out.
