In Strait of Hormuz, Two ADNOC Vessels Attacked; UAE Calls It 'Piracy'
14 August 2026 | 2 months ago
The United Arab Emirates' Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement in the early hours of Friday, August 14, 2026 (23 Mordad 1405), that Iran attacked two vessels linked to the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) on Thursday evening while they were transiting the Strait of Hormuz. According to Al Jazeera, ADNOC confirmed two of its vessels were attacked while transiting the waterway and that the situation was brought under control, with no injuries reported.
The UAE Foreign Ministry described the attack as a hostile Iranian action and strongly condemned it, saying Iran's attempt to use the Strait of Hormuz as a tool of economic coercion amounts to piracy and a direct threat to the stability of the region, its peoples, and the global energy supply. Iran did not immediately comment on the claim. The attack came just six days after a missile strike on a single ADNOC tanker in the same strait on August 8 (17 Mordad), and ADNOC said the total number of its vessels attacked in the strait since the war began has now reached 15.
