Iran's Car Market Prices Fall 2.5 Percent Since Start of Mordad, Assembled Models Lead the Drop

11 August 2026 · 2 months ago

A Donya-e-Eqtesad survey of 21 vehicle models across domestic, assembled and imported segments found average prices fell 2.5 percent from the start of Mordad 1405 (23 July 2026) through Sunday, 18 Mordad (9 August 2026). Assembled models saw the steepest drop, down 2.7 percent, followed by domestic models, down 2.6 percent, and imports, down 2.3 percent. The reversal follows a 4 percent average price rise in the prior month, Tir, which Donya-e-Eqtesad attributed to an approximately 18 percent jump in the free market dollar rate after the Islamabad memorandum and new price announcements from automakers.

Donya-e-Eqtesad reported that the main driver of the market's reversal was the free market dollar's decline from around 190,000 tomans at the start of Mordad to about 183,000 tomans. A second factor was a roughly 50 percent drop in applicants for Iran Khodro's fourteenth sales round compared with the previous round, with registrations falling from about 1.7 million to about 870,000, which the outlet said signals cooling speculative and impulsive demand. Among the models surveyed, the assembled Dignity Prime fell 450 million tomans, or 9 percent, to 4.5 billion tomans, and the domestic Peugeot 207 Automatic fell 140 million tomans, or 5 percent, to 2.63 billion tomans.
