According to a report in the Saturday 1 August 2026 (10 Mordad 1405) edition of the newspaper Donya-e-Eqtesad, Iran's currency market followed a gentle upward path last week despite continuing political and geopolitical risks. The dollar rate rose 1.3 percent between 23 and 30 July (1 to 8 Mordad) and stayed in the 190,000 toman channel. Many exchange bureaux quoted a dollar selling rate of 191,500 tomans on the final trading day of the week, while Tether traded between 192,000 and 194,000 tomans from Wednesday to Friday.
Over the same period, the dollar's limited gain combined with a small dip in global gold kept the domestic gold market from extending its rise. The price of a gram of 18 carat gold fell 0.6 percent and the various coin denominations fell 0.2 to 0.3 percent, while gold funds returned an average of minus 0.8 percent on the week. At midday on Thursday the half coin was up 0.8 percent at 95,800,000 tomans, the new design full coin up 0.1 percent at 187,200,000 tomans, and a gram of 18 carat gold down 0.3 percent at 18,653,000 tomans.
The banknote dollar rate entered the 180,000 toman channel on 14 July (23 Tir), as news broke of the return of the naval blockade and concern over the state of Iran's ports, and has fluctuated between the 180,000 and 190,000 channels since. Over the past three weeks, gold bullion auctions were held at Iran's Exchange Centre on 14 July, 21 July and 28 July, at which more than 95 percent of the 82 kilograms offered, or 78 kilograms, was sold.
