Esfandiar Shah Mansouri, deputy secretary of Iran's Supreme Council of Free Trade Zones, said on Wednesday, 1 Mehr 1405 (September 23, 2026), that nearly 60,000 vehicles were imported and registered in the country's free trade zones over the final quarter of Iranian year 1403, all of 1404, and the first five months of 1405. According to Tasnim, he said vehicle imports into the free zones do not require an official import registration and are only recorded statistically. Shah Mansouri added that luxury cars make up a small share of these imports, and that under prior regulation, imports of gasoline vehicles worth over 20,000 euros and hybrids over 40,000 euros were subject to oversight, but that oversight has eased since an Administrative Justice Court ruling last Khordad (May to June 2025) exempted free zone imports from the statistical registration requirement.
