Bitcoin fell below $63,000 in trading on Friday 31 July 2026, ending the day at $62,931, down about 3%. Even so, the world's largest cryptocurrency finished July up roughly 7.5%, a showing considered respectable given the list of headwinds the month brought. Trading Economics' independent board recorded the same price level and the same direction of travel.
The pressures of recent weeks have included rising expectations that the Federal Reserve could raise rates this year, climbing bond yields, a sharp unwind in the artificial intelligence trade and, most recently, a security breach involving the Coldcard hardware wallet. According to Bitfinex analysts, the crypto market entered the Federal Reserve meeting with far less leverage than equities, because derivatives traders had largely been flushed out in the late June selloff that took bitcoin below $58,000 on 1 July. Average daily liquidations have since remained well below this year's typical range of $400 million to $500 million. The analysts wrote: "Crypto fell less than levered equity themes because the forced-selling fuel was already spent."
Paul Howard, a director at trading firm Wincent, said the assets stolen in the Coldcard exploit have not yet been liquidated and that the likelihood of liquidation will weigh on bitcoin pricing in the near term. Lacie Zhang, research analyst at Bitget Wallet, called the base case "a choppy August with bitcoin range-bound" unless real yields fall or exchange traded fund flows turn consistently positive again. The market's next focus is the US jobs report due in the coming week. For Iran's market, bitcoin's path is followed through global crypto prices and domestic tether demand.
