US dollar index firms on safe-haven demand from the Iran war
19 July 2026 | 3 months ago
The intensifying US-Iran conflict in the week to 17 July 2026 boosted demand for the dollar as a safe haven and helped support it. According to Reuters, the US dollar index (DXY) stood at about 100.78 on Friday.
Safe-haven flows offset an earlier drop in the index that week driven by fading odds of a rate hike, though the dollar still ended the week down about 0.2%. For Iran's market, a stronger global dollar is typically one of the pressures on the rial's exchange rate.
