The US Energy Information Administration's Weekly Petroleum Status Report for the week ending August 7, 2026 showed a surprise 17.4 million barrel build in US crude inventories, bringing stockpiles to 424.4 million barrels, just 2 percent below the five-year average.

IEA Oil Market Report - August 2026 edition
The IEA released its monthly Oil Market Report on August 12, 2026, covering global oil supply, demand, and inventories. The agency revised its 2026 global demand decline forecast to 1.6 million barrels a day, 510,000 barrels a day steeper than its July estimate, citing deepening effects from the Strait of Hormuz closure. Global observed oil inventories fell below 7.9 billion barrels in July for the first time since April 2025.

Sunday2 events67th OPEC+ Joint Ministerial Monitoring Committee (JMMC) meeting
The 67th meeting of the OPEC+ Joint Ministerial Monitoring Committee was held by videoconference on August 2, 2026. Its members are Saudi Arabia, Russia, Iraq, Kuwait, Kazakhstan, Nigeria, Algeria and Venezuela. The committee reviewed crude production data for May and June 2026, noted overall conformity among participating countries, and expressed concern over attacks on energy infrastructure and their effect on overall supply availability.

OPEC+ voluntary producers monthly meeting - August 2026
Seven OPEC+ members (Saudi Arabia, Russia, Iraq, Kuwait, Kazakhstan, Algeria and Oman) met online on August 2, 2026 to set September 2026 output. They agreed to unwind a further 188,000 barrels per day of the 1.65 million barrel per day voluntary cut announced in April 2023, effective in September. The next meeting is set for September 6, 2026.
