The US Treasury held the G20 Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors Meeting in Asheville, North Carolina, from August 31 to September 1, 2026 (9 to 10 Shahrivar 1405). On the sidelines, according to Donya-e-Eqtesad citing CNBC, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent denied claims of a rift with Federal Reserve Chair Kevin Warsh and defended the Treasury's bond market intervention.

OPEC Monthly Oil Market Report - August 2026 edition

OPEC's August 2026 Monthly Oil Market Report, released Wednesday, August 12, 2026, cut its forecast for 2026 global oil demand growth to 580,000 barrels per day from a July estimate of 780,000 bpd. The downgrade came alongside a similar cut by the International Energy Agency, both citing the continued closure of the Strait of Hormuz.

IEA Oil Market Report - August 2026 edition

The IEA released its monthly Oil Market Report on August 12, 2026, covering global oil supply, demand, and inventories. The agency revised its 2026 global demand decline forecast to 1.6 million barrels a day, 510,000 barrels a day steeper than its July estimate, citing deepening effects from the Strait of Hormuz closure. Global observed oil inventories fell below 7.9 billion barrels in July for the first time since April 2025.

67th OPEC+ Joint Ministerial Monitoring Committee (JMMC) meeting

The 67th meeting of the OPEC+ Joint Ministerial Monitoring Committee was held by videoconference on August 2, 2026. Its members are Saudi Arabia, Russia, Iraq, Kuwait, Kazakhstan, Nigeria, Algeria and Venezuela. The committee reviewed crude production data for May and June 2026, noted overall conformity among participating countries, and expressed concern over attacks on energy infrastructure and their effect on overall supply availability.

OPEC+ voluntary producers monthly meeting - August 2026

Seven OPEC+ members (Saudi Arabia, Russia, Iraq, Kuwait, Kazakhstan, Algeria and Oman) met online on August 2, 2026 to set September 2026 output. They agreed to unwind a further 188,000 barrels per day of the 1.65 million barrel per day voluntary cut announced in April 2023, effective in September. The next meeting is set for September 6, 2026.

Japan and US joint foreign exchange intervention to support the yen

Japan's Ministry of Finance and the US Treasury officially confirmed on 3 August 2026 the joint yen buying intervention carried out on Friday 31 July 2026. It was the first coordinated action by the two countries since 2011 and came with the yen near a 40 year low. The dollar index is among the variables affecting the world gold price and, through it, Iran's gold and currency markets.

OPEC+ Joint Ministerial Monitoring Committee (JMMC) meeting - July 2026

OPEC Monthly Oil Market Report - July 2026 edition

OPEC published the July edition of its Monthly Oil Market Report (MOMR). The report cut the 2026 world oil demand growth forecast to about 780,000 barrels per day (from 970,000 bpd previously), a third consecutive monthly downgrade driven mainly by softer Chinese and Indian consumption. In the same report OPEC raised its 2027 demand growth forecast to roughly 1.94 million barrels per day. Global oil demand is the single most Iran-relevant external variable for the country's oil revenue.

IEA Oil Market Report - July 2026 edition

The International Energy Agency (IEA) released its monthly Oil Market Report on July 10, 2026. Global oil supply rebounded to 98.8 mb/d in June, and Dated Brent crude, which had fallen to around $68/bbl in June, climbed back to roughly $77/bbl after hostilities resumed on July 7-8. The agency forecasts a full-year 2026 demand decline of about 1 mb/d, followed by 2027 growth of around 2 mb/d.
