Brent Crude Jumps More Than 3 Percent to $108.23 a Barrel

Sep 14, 2026

According to Reuters, as carried by IRNA and reflected by EcoIran on Monday, September 14, 2026 (23 Shahrivar 1405), oil prices rose more than $3 at the start of Monday's trading following fresh attacks on Saudi Arabia and on ships in the Persian Gulf region on Sunday. Brent crude futures rose $3.62, or 3.46 percent, to $108.23 a barrel by 2214 GMT Sunday, while US West Texas Intermediate futures gained $3.15, or 3.15 percent, to $103.20 a barrel. Sahmino's own live price data showed Brent trading near $107.5 a barrel Monday morning Tehran time, up about 2.8 percent from the previous day.

Reuters said reduced Middle East supply, attacks on oil infrastructure and disruption to shipping routes have raised the risk that high prices persist. The rise extends a rally that began with the shutdown of Saudi Arabia's East to West pipeline, which can carry about 7 million barrels a day from inside Saudi Arabia to Red Sea ports without passing through the Strait of Hormuz; Riyadh halted the pipeline as a precaution after a drone attack on Thursday, September 10 (19 Shahrivar), and has not announced when it will resume.

For Iran's market, the jump in global oil prices could benefit Tehran listed petrochemical and refining exporters; Sahmino's own desk data already showed buying pressure building in those sectors ahead of today's Tehran Stock Exchange session.

Brent Crude Jumps Above $107 as Hormuz Traffic Drops

Brent crude jumped more than 3 percent, up 3.21 dollars, to 107.82 dollars a barrel on Monday, September 14, after an Iranian ship was attacked in the Strait of Hormuz on Sunday and Saudi Arabia's East to West oil pipeline was damaged in a drone strike. Reuters reported that vessel transits through Hormuz fell to 14 a day over the weekend, below the 10 day average and far under the more than 100 daily transits recorded before the US and Israeli war on Iran began. US Energy Secretary Chris Wright told Bloomberg that oil flows through Hormuz averaged 10 million barrels a day over the past week, about two thirds of pre war levels. Sahmino's own price data showed Brent at 107.96 dollars as of 19:28 Tehran time on Tuesday, September 15, up 1.65 percent on the day.

Iraq seizes drone launch platform used in attack on Saudi oil pipeline

According to Iraq's state-run news agency INA, as reported by Al Jazeera, Lieutenant General Saad Maan, head of Iraq's Security Media Cell, said on Saturday, September 12, 2026, that Iraqi security and intelligence forces had located and seized the drone-launching equipment used in a strike on Saudi Arabia's East-West oil pipeline. He said Iraq's commander-in-chief had approved an Iranian request to join the investigation and review its findings, and that Baghdad was sharing intelligence directly with Saudi authorities. Saudi authorities had traced the launch site to Maysan province in southeastern Iraq, near the Iranian border. The pipeline, which carries about 4 to 5 percent of global oil supply and lets Saudi Arabia bypass the Strait of Hormuz, had been shut down as a precaution after the preceding Thursday's attack.
