Emami coin falls to 180 million tomans on Sunday while the global ounce holds flat

Jul 26, 2026

Iran's domestic gold and coin market went through a second consecutive declining session on Sunday, 26 July 2026. In the 11:35 Tehran time update, the full Emami coin was down 2.44 percent at 180 million tomans and the Bahar Azadi coin down 2.22 percent at 176 million tomans. Sahmino's own price board recorded the Emami coin at 180.005 million tomans, down 2.49 percent, as of 11:29.

At the same hour, a gram of 18-carat gold traded down 1.74 percent at 17.822 million tomans and a mesghal of melted gold at 77.2 million tomans. The half-coin was recorded at 93 million tomans, down 1.06 percent, and the quarter-coin at 52 million tomans, down 1.89 percent.

The decisive feature of this session is that the declines had nothing to do with the world market: at the same hour spot gold stood at $4,052.91 an ounce, effectively unchanged with a 0.01 percent gain, and silver at $58.17, unchanged. The entire domestic move therefore came from the currency side, with the free-market dollar retreating to 187,000 tomans the same day. Gold's price in Iran is the product of the global ounce and the free-market dollar rate, so when the ounce holds still, the change in domestic prices is purely a reflection of the currency market.

Central Bank to Issue First Ever Standard Parallel Forward Coin Notes With a Guaranteed 7 Percent Return

According to ISNA, carried by Donya-e-Eqtesad on Saturday, September 5, 2026 (14 Shahrivar 1405), the Central Bank of Iran said it will issue the country's first ever Standard Parallel Forward Coin Notes on 18 Shahrivar 1405 (September 9, 2026). The new financial instrument is intended to widen investment access to the gold coin market and help contain the inflationary effects of liquidity growth. Per the report, the notes carry a three month maturity: buyers purchase a coin at its market discovered price at issuance and can claim the coin's value three months later under the announced terms. The notes also carry a guaranteed minimum return, letting holders exercise a put option to sell at maturity for a price equal to 7 percent above the price discovered on the issuance day. Details on the offering method, pricing and trading terms are to be announced through the Central Bank's own information portal and the Iran Mercantile Exchange.

Emami Coin Rises in Tehran Today Even as Global Gold Ounce Slips

Tehran's gold and coin market extended its gains on Monday, 9 Shahrivar 1405 (August 31, 2026), even as the global gold ounce slipped. According to Donya e Eqtesad at 11:06am Tehran time, the Emami coin's price rose to 217,500,000 tomans today. Live data from tgju.org put the Emami coin at 218,010,000 tomans over the same hours, up 1.39 percent from the same day last week (Tuesday, 3 Shahrivar, at 215,000,000 tomans). Per Sahmino's own data at 11:29am, the Emami coin was up 0.67 percent at 219,480,000 tomans, with its premium over intrinsic gold value jumping to about 3,240,000 tomans. The rise came as global spot gold, per Sahmino's data at the same hour, was down 0.27 percent at 4,442.2 dollars an ounce, suggesting the rise in Iran's domestic dollar rate, rather than the global gold price, was the main driver behind Tehran's gold and coin market today. The Emami coin had also touched an all time high of 223,500,000 tomans last week, on Friday, 6 Shahrivar (August 28).
