Prices of Some Common Medicines Rise Two to Four Times in a Year; Amoxicillin Up From 320,000 to 1,230,000 Tomans

Sep 4, 2026

According to Mehr News Agency, carried by Donya-e-Eqtesad on Friday, 13 Shahrivar 1405 (September 4, 2026), a review of drug prices between Shahrivar 1404 and Shahrivar 1405 (roughly September 2025 to September 2026) shows some widely used medicines have risen at least two to four times over, including amoxicillin, up from 320,000 to 1,230,000 tomans, gabapentin 300, up from 300,000 to 960,000 tomans, clarithromycin, up from 450,000 to 1,580,000 tomans, and acetaminophen codeine, up from 137,000 to 650,000 tomans.

Hosseinali Haji Deligani, deputy chair of parliament's Article 90 Commission, pointed to a critical situation in supplying some medicines, saying insurers have failed to close the resulting price gap for patients, pushing patients' out of pocket share of drug costs to nearly 80 percent. He said delays in updating Food and Drug Administration approved prices within insurers' systems force patients to pay additional costs in the meantime.
