South Korea's KOSPI index, which hit an all-time high of 9,385.59 points in June this year, had reversed most of its gains by late July, falling below 5,595 points, and dropped nearly 6 percent on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, a day after a 1.55 percent decline on Tuesday. According to Al Jazeera, the KOSPI is up about 50 percent since the start of this year but remains 30 percent below its record high; margin loans used to buy stocks have fallen from a June peak of 38.6 trillion won ($27.6 billion) to 28.9 trillion won ($20.7 billion) by the end of July.

The report said many first time investors entered the market at the encouragement of President Lee Jae-myung and have since lost part of their gains; regulators had approved leveraged exchange traded funds tracking Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix, which together account for more than half the KOSPI's weight. Lee's approval rating has fallen for five consecutive weeks to 43 percent in an August 10 to 14 Realmeter survey, the lowest of his presidency.

Trading of Edalat Shares remains unavailable. The current market value of a 490,000 toman nominal portfolio has reached 43,990,000 tomans, and a 1,000,000 toman portfolio has reached 90,514,000 tomans.

Farabourse Iran Reports 16 Companies Improved Their Audit Opinion Within a Year

According to Boursenews, Jalal Baharestan, Farabourse Iran's deputy for issuer oversight, said that of 83 Farabourse listed companies identified in Shahrivar 1404 (August/September 2025) as having qualified audit opinions, 16 companies, or 20 percent, managed to have their auditor's opinion upgraded to "unqualified" by Shahrivar 1405 (August/September 2026) after a year of follow up. He said the total number of audit qualification clauses across these companies fell 30 percent over the same year. Baharestan said that after identifying the 83 companies, Farabourse engaged with issuers on the issues raised in their audit reports and asked their boards to submit corrective plans and clear timelines to resolve the ambiguities. He said the improvement was not limited to companies exiting qualified status, as other issuers have also improved reporting quality by clarifying their accounts and resolving financial disputes.
