Spare parts union says many part prices are 70 to 80 percent higher than late last year

According to the ISNA news agency, Hamidreza Habib-Dolabi, a member of the Tehran union of manufacturers and sellers of vehicle and machinery spare parts, said on Thursday 30 July 2026 that the price of many spare parts is around 70 to 80 percent higher than in late last year. He said the market for heavy-vehicle parts, industrial machinery and bearings faces the greatest supply difficulty.

He said these parts are mainly sourced from Japanese and Chinese brands and that a significant share of imports had previously come through intermediaries such as the United Arab Emirates, but transport restrictions and the closure of some trade routes have made procurement harder. Shortages of Chinese and Japanese items are noticeable in the market, he said, and traders' lack of confidence in being able to restock again has affected market behaviour.

Habib-Dolabi added that a change in the basis for calculating customs duties and levies, together with the change in the exchange rate, has doubled the landed cost of imports for importers. He said that since the start of the current Iranian year it has effectively been impossible for many traders in this field to register new orders, and that a number of consignments remain held at customs over standards, the origin of the foreign currency used, and administrative formalities.
