Eurozone Flash CPI Inflation, August 2026

IAEA Director General's Planned Visit to Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Plant

IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi has a visit to the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant planned for 20 and 21 August 2026 (29 and 30 Mordad 1405). The planned visit follows a drone attack a day earlier on a bus stop used by plant staff in Enerhodar, which Grossi described as the most serious incident in the plant's history.

Euro area GDP second estimate - Q2 2026

Eurostat published the second estimate of euro area GDP for Q2 2026 on 14 August 2026. Quarterly growth was confirmed at 0.4 percent, matching the flash estimate, with annual growth at 1.0 percent, up from a revised 0.5 percent the prior quarter. Spain led major euro area economies with 0.7 percent quarterly growth.

Eurozone flash HICP inflation estimate - July 2026

Eurostat published its flash estimate of eurozone Harmonised Index of Consumer Prices (HICP) inflation for July 2026 on July 31. Annual inflation came in at 2.9%, in line with market expectations and up from 2.8% in June, remaining above the European Central Bank's 2% target. The rise was driven mainly by energy inflation accelerating to 10.0% from 8.5%, while services inflation edged up to 3.3% and core inflation reached 2.5%.

Bank of England MPC meeting - July 2026 Bank Rate decision

The Bank of England's Monetary Policy Committee announced its Bank Rate decision on Thursday, July 30, 2026 (8 Mordad 1405), at 12:00 London time. The Committee voted 6 to 3 to maintain the Bank Rate at 3.75%, with three members voting for a 0.25 percentage point increase to 4%. The Bank reported that CPI inflation has fallen to 2.6% but is expected to rise later in the year as higher energy prices continue to pass through. The next decision is scheduled for September 17, 2026.

Euro area GDP flash estimate - Q2 2026

Eurostat published its flash estimate of second-quarter 2026 GDP on 30 July 2026. The euro area economy grew 0.4 percent on the previous quarter, against flat growth in the first quarter and a market expectation of 0.2 percent, while annual growth accelerated to 1.0 percent from 0.5 percent. The wider European Union grew 0.5 percent over the same quarter. A second estimate is scheduled for 14 August 2026.

Expiry of EU restrictive measures on Iran pending renewal decision

The European Union's restrictive measures on Iran under the framework covering transfers of drones, missiles and their components were in force until 27 July 2026 (5 Mordad 1405), with the Council of the EU due to decide on renewal. According to the Council of the EU's official Iran sanctions policy page, the framework has been extended until 27 July 2027. At the time that page was read on 3 August 2026 (12 Mordad 1405), 22 individuals and 27 entities were listed under this regime.

EU Council lists six more individuals under its Iran human rights sanctions framework

The Council of the European Union added six more individuals to its Iran human rights sanctions framework on Friday, 24 July 2026 (2 Mordad 1405). Following the decision the framework covers a total of 269 individuals and 53 entities. It is a separate track from the EU restrictive measures on drone and missile component exports, whose current term runs to 27 July 2026.

ECB Governing Council meeting - July 2026

The European Central Bank's Governing Council held its monetary policy meeting in Frankfurt on 23 July 2026 (1 Mordad 1405) to decide on eurozone interest rates. The Council kept the deposit facility rate at 2.25%, in line with market expectations (main refinancing operations at 2.40% and the marginal lending facility at 2.65%). The hold followed a 25 basis point increase at the June meeting and affects the euro-dollar exchange rate and global commodity markets.

EU MiCA transitional period for crypto-asset service providers ends

The EU-wide transitional period that allowed crypto-asset service providers to operate under national licenses ahead of full Markets in Crypto-Assets (MiCA) authorization ended on July 1, 2026. Providing crypto-asset services in the EU without MiCA authorization after this date is a breach of EU law.
