64 kg of gold bars sold at Tuesday's Exchange Center auction; average 9.346 billion tomans per bar

Jul 14, 2026

Iran's Currency and Gold Exchange Center (Markaz Mobadeleh) held its 116th gold bar auction on Tuesday, 14 July 2026 (23 Tir 1405). Of the 115 kilograms of gold bars offered, 64 kilograms were sold for more than 598 billion tomans, at an average price of 9.346 billion tomans per standard bar.

According to the report, 19 gold bar auctions have been held at the Exchange Center since the start of the Iranian year 1405, selling a combined 1,506 kilograms for 13,253 billion tomans.

The auctions are a government tool to meet market gold demand and calm prices, and they come on days when the free market dollar has climbed above 180,000 tomans. About 51 kilograms of the bars offered went unsold, pointing to less than full buyer appetite at these price levels.

Goldman Sachs Metals Head Says Gold's Bull Run Has Paused, Not Ended

Tony Kim, Goldman Sachs' global head of metals trading, said on the bank's The Markets podcast, reported by Ecoiran on Sunday, September 6, 2026 (15 Shahrivar 1405), that gold's 2026 rally has hit an extended pause rather than the end of its bull market. He attributed the pause to two short term factors: uncertainty over Federal Reserve policy following Kevin Warsh's nomination to chair the central bank, and the Iran-US war, whose disruption to energy, agriculture and metals markets is also reshaping inflation and central bank reserve flows. Kim said annual central bank gold purchases, previously around 400 to 500 tonnes, have risen to about 1,000 to 1,100 tonnes a year, while annual mine output is roughly 3,500 tonnes, a shift he said absorbs a much larger share of new supply and means a fresh price rally would not require a huge wave of new capital.

World's Central Banks Bought 23 Tonnes of Net Gold in July; China and Poland Lead Buyers

According to Donya-e-Eqtesad, citing Kitco News and the World Gold Council's (WGC) latest report, the world's central banks recorded net gold purchases of 23 tonnes in July 2026. Marissa Salim, the Council's senior research manager for Asia-Pacific, said China (20 tonnes, its 21st straight month of buying) and Poland (8 tonnes) led buyers, while the Czech National Bank added 2 tonnes, its 41st consecutive month of purchases. On the selling side, Russia was the month's largest net seller at 6 tonnes, while Turkey, Jordan and Uzbekistan each sold 1 tonne. Year to date, Poland leads with 90 tonnes added, toward a 700 tonne target, and China with 60 tonnes, 8 percent of its reserves, taking its total to about 2,366 tonnes. The Bank of Korea returned to gold for the first time in 13 years with an allocation of about 250 million dollars, nearly 2 tonnes, through gold backed ETFs, while Venezuela has asked the Bank of England to return about 4 billion dollars of its gold reserves. Total announced central bank gold purchases so far this year stand at about 130 tonnes, below the roughly 160 tonnes bought over the same period last year.

Stronger Than Expected US Jobs Report Pushes Gold and Stocks Lower; Markets Now Watch September 11 Inflation Data

According to Ecoiran, the US Labor Department said on Friday, September 4, 2026 (13 Shahrivar 1405), that US nonfarm payrolls rose by 162,000 in August, far above the 56,000 economists polled by Reuters had expected; the unemployment rate held at 4.1 percent, and June and July payrolls were revised up by a combined 55,000. The labor force participation rate rose to 61.6 percent and annual hourly wage growth was 3.1 percent. The report boosted expectations of a Federal Reserve rate hike at its September 15 to 16 meeting, pushing the two year Treasury yield to 4.37 percent and pulling the S&P 500 down 0.4 percent; spot gold fell more than 1 percent to around 4,427 dollars an ounce and silver fell about 1.1 percent to near 66.1 dollars an ounce. Fed Chair Kevin Warsh had earlier said at Jackson Hole that the US labor market is consistent with full employment and that monetary policy should focus on inflation. Ecoiran wrote that markets are now focused on the September 11 (20 Shahrivar) US consumer price index, which could decide whether a September rate hike becomes the Fed's leading option.
