As Hormuz ship traffic slips below average, Iran ties reopening the strait to US honoring its commitments

According to a Reuters report carried by Mehr News on Monday, September 14, 2026, shipping data shows vessel traffic through the Strait of Hormuz early this week has fallen below the previous 10 day average of 14 vessels a day, a decline Reuters attributed to persistent military tensions in the region. In the same report, Iran's foreign minister said the Iran Oman understanding does not mean the strait is reopening, and that hinges on the US returning to the commitments it accepted under the Islamabad memorandum; he added that if the US honors its signed commitments, conditions would allow shipping in the strait to return to normal, while blaming the US naval blockade and economic war as the main causes of shipping insecurity there. Separately, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said the same day, as reported by EcoIran, that the agreed Hormuz route with Oman would reopen once the US ends its blockade and hostile actions.

Kromit obtains permit for trial copper extraction at Tarosak mine, projects up to 120 billion rials in added sales
Iran Manganese Mines Company, trading under ticker Kromit, disclosed via codal on Tuesday, September 15, 2026, that it had obtained a permit for trial extraction of 150 tons of copper at its Tarosak mine, and said it is pursuing an initial discovery certificate for 30,000 to 50,000 tons followed by an operating license for about 8,000 to 10,000 tons of annual extraction. The company estimated the operation would add about 100 to 120 billion rials to sales in the current fiscal year, with sales revenue from it reaching roughly 500 billion rials the following fiscal year. The Ministry of Industry, Mine and Trade permit was issued on September 9 and sent for signature.

Iraq seizes drone launch platform used in attack on Saudi oil pipeline

CENTCOM disputes IRGC account that a naval mine struck tanker El Gaia in Hormuz
