European stocks edge higher on Tuesday, driven by earnings and another pullback in energy prices
Jul 28, 2026
European equity markets ended Tuesday, 28 July 2026 (6 Mordad 1405), modestly higher. According to Trading Economics data the same day, the Euro STOXX 50 added 0.2 percent to 6,294 points and the STOXX Europe 600 gained 0.4 percent to 647 points. The two stated drivers were corporate earnings and another pullback in energy prices.
Among individual names, Unilever led the gains, surging 8.5 percent after raising its full year sales guidance. Mercedes-Benz rose 2.9 percent, Safran 3 percent and Orange 3.1 percent, while LVMH added 1 percent. On the downside, Barclays fell 5.6 percent after posting its balance sheet, and ASML extended recent losses with a 3 percent decline; the technology sector was under pressure globally on renewed concerns about AI related spending.
The energy factor matters directly for Iran's market: the fall in oil prices that supported European shares is the same variable that has been easing in recent days as tension around the Strait of Hormuz cooled and US officials spoke of talks with Iran.

Farabourse Iran Reports 16 Companies Improved Their Audit Opinion Within a Year
According to Boursenews, Jalal Baharestan, Farabourse Iran's deputy for issuer oversight, said that of 83 Farabourse listed companies identified in Shahrivar 1404 (August/September 2025) as having qualified audit opinions, 16 companies, or 20 percent, managed to have their auditor's opinion upgraded to "unqualified" by Shahrivar 1405 (August/September 2026) after a year of follow up. He said the total number of audit qualification clauses across these companies fell 30 percent over the same year. Baharestan said that after identifying the 83 companies, Farabourse engaged with issuers on the issues raised in their audit reports and asked their boards to submit corrective plans and clear timelines to resolve the ambiguities. He said the improvement was not limited to companies exiting qualified status, as other issuers have also improved reporting quality by clarifying their accounts and resolving financial disputes.
