Houthi drone and missile strike hits Saudi Arabia's Jazan region; mosque damaged, two wounded

Sep 13, 2026

Saudi Arabia's Civil Defence said on Saturday, September 12, 2026, that a projectile fired by Yemen's Houthi rebels struck the al Tuwal governorate in the kingdom's southern Jazan region, wounding two people and damaging a mosque, several buildings and vehicles, Al Jazeera reported. A Civil Defence spokesperson called the strike on civilian objects a flagrant violation of international humanitarian law. Houthi military spokesperson Yahya Saree said the group used ballistic missiles and drones to target a Saudi military base in Sharurah, Najran province, and warned Riyadh that further military action would be met with larger, deeper strikes inside Saudi territory. Al Jazeera noted that on Tuesday, September 8, Houthi strikes on civilian and economic facilities in Abha, Khamis Mushait, Jazan and Najran wounded 73 people. The strikes are part of a rapid escalation in Yemen's conflict, which reignited in July after roughly four years of relative calm under a United Nations brokered truce.

Saudi Arabia Halts Some Oil Exports to Europe After Attack on East to West Pipeline

Saudi Arabia canceled some crude oil shipments to Europe on September 16, 2026 (25 Shahrivar 1405), after drone attacks disabled its strategic East to West pipeline to the Red Sea, Al Jazeera reported. The rare move forced buyers to scramble for alternative supplies. An Iraqi source cited by Al Jazeera attributed the September attack to a splinter armed faction. Separately, Trading Economics reported the same day that US heating oil prices held above $5.20 a gallon, near record highs, as the pipeline shutdown compounded existing shipping disruptions through the Strait of Hormuz. Global benchmark Brent crude has traded above $100 a barrel this week amid the regional supply disruptions.
