Iran's Point to Point Inflation Hits 89 Percent in Mordad, a Fresh Record in Statistical Center Data

Iran's Statistical Center reported in its Mordad 1405 consumer price index release (the month ended 31 Mordad, or August 22, 2026) that monthly, point to point and annual inflation all rose from Tir, the previous month. Monthly inflation climbed from 3.1 percent in Tir to 3.4 percent in Mordad. Point to point inflation (against Mordad of last year) rose 1.1 percentage points to 89 percent, and annual inflation (the 12 month average through Mordad) rose from 66 to 69.9 percent. The central bank's own separate urban data showed monthly inflation rising from 3.6 to 3.7 percent, point to point inflation from 83.9 to 84.4 percent, and annual inflation from 61.4 to 65.1 percent. According to Ecoiran, this Mordad's point to point and annual inflation figures are the highest recorded in the Statistical Center's series dating back to 1392 (2013). Among components, the communications group posted the highest monthly non food inflation at 6.7 percent, while vegetables led food inflation at 9.3 percent; education recorded the lowest monthly inflation at 1.4 percent. Mazandaran province posted the highest provincial monthly inflation rate for Mordad.

13th Islamic Treasury Bond Auction Sees Weak Demand; Only One of Four Symbols Sold
According to central bank data, Iran's 13th Islamic treasury bond auction was held on Wednesday, 11 Shahrivar 1405 (September 2, 2026), offering about 48 trillion tomans of bonds across four symbols, Arad296, Arad297, Arad299 and Arad304, but only Arad304 found buyers. According to Ecoiran, the buyers were primary dealers, who placed a combined 20,370 billion tomans in bids for that symbol. Total sales in this auction were lower than the average per-auction sales under the new system (21,800 billion tomans) and lower than the previous three auctions, though still higher than sales levels from before the primary-dealer market was set up, when banks were required to buy the bonds. The yield on these bonds is set under an agreed contract between the government and the primary dealers.
