Abbas Basafa, head of Iran's National Smart Fuel Card System, said on the television program "Miz-e Eqtesad" on Sunday, September 13, 2026 (22 Shahrivar 1405), that new plate vehicles worth more than 1 billion tomans and vehicles carrying special free trade zone plates no longer have access to the subsidized 1,500 and 3,000 toman petrol tiers. Instead, according to Mehr News Agency, these vehicles now receive a monthly quota of 110 liters of petrol priced at 10,000 tomans on their personal fuel cards, with each driver able to store up to 180 liters on the card.
Basafa also said the government plans to allocate a monthly quota of 300 liters of petrol at 10,000 tomans to ride hailing taxis and pickup trucks, pending approval from the Article 8 working group. He said the changes, which began in Azar 1404 (November-December 2025), are mainly meant to organize fuel distribution and consumption and curb unused quotas sitting idle on personal fuel cards.

Brent Crude Jumps Above $107 as Hormuz Traffic Drops
Brent crude jumped more than 3 percent, up 3.21 dollars, to 107.82 dollars a barrel on Monday, September 14, after an Iranian ship was attacked in the Strait of Hormuz on Sunday and Saudi Arabia's East to West oil pipeline was damaged in a drone strike. Reuters reported that vessel transits through Hormuz fell to 14 a day over the weekend, below the 10 day average and far under the more than 100 daily transits recorded before the US and Israeli war on Iran began. US Energy Secretary Chris Wright told Bloomberg that oil flows through Hormuz averaged 10 million barrels a day over the past week, about two thirds of pre war levels. Sahmino's own price data showed Brent at 107.96 dollars as of 19:28 Tehran time on Tuesday, September 15, up 1.65 percent on the day.
