Spain's interior ministry says about 49,000 migrants entered Ceuta in 24 hours as the army deploys to the border

Spain's interior ministry said that around 49,000 migrants entered the Spanish autonomous city of Ceuta in northern Morocco within just 24 hours, in one of the largest migration surges of recent years. The report was published early on Saturday 1 August 2026 (10 Mordad 1405). Alongside the Civil Guard and coast guard units, Madrid also deployed army forces to control the border.
According to the broadcaster RTVE, citing Spain's interior ministry, the number of people returned to Morocco as of Friday 31 July had passed 48,300. Juan Jesús Vivas, the mayor of Ceuta, had earlier put arrivals at around 60,000 in a single day, an estimate higher than the ministry's official figure. French President Emmanuel Macron said four rapid-reaction units, along with aircraft and drones, had been deployed at the border with Spain.
The surge coincided with Throne Day celebrations in Morocco, and the government in Rabat has so far taken no official position. Ceuta is one of the European Union's two land borders with Africa, and unrest there puts pressure on the management of the Schengen frontier.

In the Black Sea, a cargo ship carrying Western military equipment for Ukraine came under Russian attack
Russia's defense ministry said on Sunday, 15 Shahrivar 1405 (6 September 2026), that its armed forces struck a cargo ship in the Black Sea that was carrying military equipment sent by Western supporters to Ukraine's armed forces. Russia and India are next stops for Iran's economy minister; Madanizadeh calls economic diplomacy a tool against sanctions
Seyed Ali Madanizadeh, Iran's minister of economic affairs and finance, said on Sunday, 15 Shahrivar 1405 (6 September 2026), that he is traveling to Moscow and then to New Delhi to attend a meeting of BRICS finance and economy ministers. Fars News: New satellite images show three strike marks at Kuwait's Ahmad al Jaber base from Iran's attack
Fars News Agency published new satellite images on Sunday, 6 September 2026 (15 Shahrivar 1405), of Kuwait's Ahmad al Jaber air base, which it said show three dark spots and possible burn marks in the area where American aircraft and fighter jets are based. The images follow an earlier announcement by Iran's army that in the 31st phase of what it calls Operation Saeqeh, it struck satellite communication systems, equipment warehouses and fighter jet hangars at the base with missiles and drones, damaging the communication systems and hangars. Fars said foreign media had also reported Iran's strike on the base on September 3 (12 Shahrivar). No independent damage assessment has been published so far, and US or Kuwaiti officials have not confirmed the details of the attack.
