The US Treasury Department on Friday, September 11, 2026 (20 Shahrivar 1405) sanctioned Istanbul based investment bank Golden Global Yatirim Bankasi along with two affiliated firms, asset manager Golden Global Portfoy Yonetimi and asset leasing company Golden Global Varlik Kiralama. According to the US Treasury, the three entities were part of a shadow banking network that helped transfer Iran's oil revenue from China to Turkey and then convert it into cash and gold through exchange houses.

According to a report by Ecoiran, Golden Global, with about 516.6 million dollars in assets in 2025, ranks as Turkey's 35th largest bank, but this marks the first time in the current sanctions campaign that a bank in a NATO member country has been directly targeted by US sanctions. Turkish Finance Minister Mehmet Simsek said Ankara has taken note of Washington's recent announcement and has asked the country's financial and economic actors to fully comply with national regulations. Golden Global has denied the allegations, saying it has fully complied with domestic and international rules.

Fixed-asset investment dropped 7.2 percent in the first eight months of the year, with real estate investment falling more sharply, down 19.9 percent. Iran ties one-million-toman digital wallet deposit for state employees to their own consent

Hamidreza Ahmadian, deputy for e-governance and smart government at Iran's Administrative and Recruitment Organization, said on Tuesday, September 15, 2026 (24 Shahrivar 1405) that depositing one million tomans into state employees' digital wallets will not happen without the employee's own consent, and no ceiling has been set on the amount, meaning an employee could ask to have their entire salary transferred to the wallet, or conversely, none of it. According to Ahmadian, Iran's digital wallet, unlike bank cards that run on the Shaparak and Shetab payment networks, operates on telecom operators' basic USSD service and requires no internet connection. He said the main goal of the system is to boost the resilience of the country's payment network under emergency conditions, an issue that has been on the agenda since last year given wartime circumstances. Ahmadian added that the central bank is reviewing incentive measures to expand the program, and that the infrastructure has been made available at the central bank for the general public, not just government employees.
