At dawn Monday, the thirteenth of July, the pattern flipped: oil jumped, but gold pulled back. Escalating tension in the Strait of Hormuz pushed Brent past seventy-eight dollars a barrel. This time a firmer global dollar and caution before US inflation weighed on gold. The free-market dollar held near one hundred eighty thousand tomans, the official rate near one forty-nine thousand. A barrel of Brent traded near seventy-nine dollars this morning, up about four percent. At home, both eighteen-karat gold and the Emami coin closed higher Sunday. But spot gold slipped this morning to about four thousand fifty-five dollars, a second down day. Tehran's main stock index fell two and a half percent Sunday, to five point zero five million points. It was the fifth straight losing session, as retail money left on returning risk. In global crypto, Bitcoin and Ethereum both fell about two percent. Across global markets, oil and the dollar rose while spot gold fell. Regionally, the lira and yuan were steady, and Saudi Arabia's market edged up. Oman proposed two separate corridors for Hormuz, and Araghchi took the plan to Tehran. Rebar held near sixty-seven thousand tomans, and the car-pricing dispute stays open. Watch today's bourse reopening, gold's reaction to spot, and tomorrow's US inflation print. Iran has declared the Strait of Hormuz closed, while the US says the route is open. Behind the scenes, OPEC trimmed demand and China's oil imports hit a twenty-sixteen low. So, is seventy-nine-dollar oil good or bad for Iran? Tell us in the comments.
