Sunday midday, 28 Khordad 1405 (19 July 2026): the market is pulling in two directions. The free dollar sits at a record near 194,500 toman and a gram of 18-karat gold holds in the 19-million-toman channel, yet the Tehran bourse index is trading about 0.6 percent lower by 11 a.m. and, if it holds, heads for a 9th straight losing session. The divergence between the bourse and the parallel market is today's main story.

Transcript

Today the dollar held its record, yet the Tehran bourse fell again. Why? Here is the full market picture. By eleven this morning the overall index was down about half a percent, heading for a ninth straight loss. By midday the overall index was trading near four million seven hundred fifty thousand. A weaker rial should help dollar-linked shares, but geopolitical risk pushes money into dollars and gold. The free dollar sits near one hundred ninety-four thousand five hundred toman, a fresh record. The free dollar rose more than three percent to a fresh record near one hundred ninety-four thousand toman. A gram of eighteen-karat gold reached about nineteen point one million toman today. Because gold rose faster than the coin, the Emami coin premium compressed about nineteen percent to six million toman. Both the overall and the equal-weighted index were down, so selling was not limited to large caps. Turnover stayed thin, and real-money flow has been an outflow in recent sessions. Globally, Bitcoin traded near sixty-four thousand dollars and Ethereum near eighteen hundred. In steel, Arian Foulad rebar was quoted between sixty-seven and sixty-nine thousand toman per kilogram. In cars, the Pride one fifty-one is about one point one billion toman, and the market is waiting. Tehran type-two cement is about four million toman per ton, driven mostly by energy and seasonal demand. Limits on shipping through the Strait of Hormuz keep a risk premium alive in the energy market. Brent crude is near eighty-eight dollars and spot gold near four thousand twenty dollars.
