Today's market winners were the dollar and oil, and the main loser was the Tehran Stock Exchange. Early Tuesday, the free-market dollar rate reached about one hundred eighty-three thousand tomans, a fresh record. The fuel was the continuing Strait of Hormuz disruption, which pushed Brent crude to about eighty-five dollars. At Monday's close the free-market dollar neared one hundred eighty-one thousand tomans, far above the agreed rate. The free-market dollar rose about fourteen hundred tomans on Monday to a fresh high. Gold traded near seventeen million tomans a gram, and the Emami coin near one hundred seventy-seven million tomans. The Tehran index closed Monday down one point eight percent at about four million nine hundred sixty-seven thousand. Amid the sell-off, Tehran Oil Refining reported a two hundred eighty-seven percent jump in yearly net profit. Retail investors pulled money out of stocks and into the dollar and gold, the familiar divergence. Bitcoin traded near sixty-two thousand four hundred dollars and Ethereum near one thousand seven hundred eighty. Brent rose to about eighty-five dollars, but global gold slipped below four thousand dollars. The rising dollar offset the drop in the global ounce, so domestic gold did not fall. In steel, rebar stayed near sixty-six thousand tomans a kilo, with no notable move. In cars, the dispute between the Competition Council and the industry ministry still leaves prices unsettled. The building-materials market was calm, with no notable move in cement or gypsum. Today, watch the dollar's reaction to Hormuz news and the direction of retail money in the bourse. The gap between the free-market and agreed dollar rates has widened to about thirty-five thousand tomans. How high do you think the dollar will go? Tell us in the comments.
