Iran's Emami Coin and Melted-Gold Premiums Turn Negative on Monday, August 10, 2026; Quarter-Coin Premium Still Around 10 Percent

For a second straight day, Iran's Emami coin and melted gold traded below their own intrinsic gold value in Tehran. Buyers today paid less than the actual gold inside these coins was worth. The Emami coin's premium was negative one point four three percent today, about two point seven million tomans. Just days earlier, that same premium had jumped nearly thirty two percent to three point five million tomans. Emami, melted gold, and Bahar Azadi were all negative today, but the quarter coin stayed near ten percent positive. Back in July, even at its lowest reading, this premium never actually turned negative. Iran's free market dollar slid toward one hundred eighty five thousand tomans this week on Hormuz deal optimism. At the same time, global gold held near four thousand three hundred fifty dollars, pushing intrinsic value up fast. Gold stayed near its multi week high while the free dollar kept drifting lower. For anyone holding coins or gold, selling today means getting less than the metal is actually worth. Ecoiran, the outlet that first reported it, called this an uncommon occurrence.
