Transcript

Today we're learning about shares, tickers, the overall index, and the price band. In this lesson we cover four basic concepts of the Tehran Stock Exchange. Without these concepts, you cannot properly read any stock market report. A share is simply a unit of ownership in a public company. A ticker is the short trading code for each company, like Foolad or Vabmellat. The overall index is the weighted average price and dividend across every listed company. The price band sets the daily ceiling and floor for each ticker's price. Tehran's overall index closed above five million points at the end of trading on July eighth. Suppose a share is priced at one thousand tomans, with a hypothetical five percent price band. That means the price cannot rise above one thousand fifty tomans or fall below nine hundred fifty. The Tehran Stock Exchange trades Saturday through Wednesday, from nine in the morning to twelve thirty. Tickers are split between the Tehran Stock Exchange and Iran Fara Bourse. A rising overall index does not mean every single ticker turned green. The price band only limits a single day's move, not several days in a row. Shares, tickers, the overall index, and the price band are the basics of reading TSE. For the full lesson on this topic, visit the Sahmino website.
