Trump raises tariffs on Canadian autos and steel to 50 percent
According to Arzdigital, U.S. President Donald Trump announced on Monday, Shahrivar 2, 1405 (August 24, 2026), that tariffs on all Canadian cars, trucks, auto parts and steel will rise to 50 percent starting January 1, 2027. He described the move as a response to what he called Canada's unfair trade practices and its tariffs on U.S. agricultural products, claiming the U.S. runs a 60 billion dollar annual trade deficit with Canada. Trump said companies that relocate production to the United States would be exempt from the tariffs. Canada is one of the largest U.S. trading partners in autos, parts and steel, and the higher tariffs could affect North American auto supply chains and production costs.

Mercedes-Benz recalls 310,667 vehicles in the US over a driver's door lock fault
The US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said on Thursday, 30 July 2026, that Mercedes-Benz is recalling 310,667 vehicles in the United States. According to the regulator, the recall stems from the risk that an open door will not be detected. Corrosion of a microswitch in the driver's door lock can prevent the automatic parking brake from engaging, which can lead to unintended vehicle movement and a rollaway. The recall covers the CLA, the A-Class, the C-Class, the GLA and GLB crossovers, and the GLC. Dealers will replace the driver's door lock free of charge.
