Vitalik Buterin unveiled the "Lean Ethereum" roadmap on Saturday, July 4, 2026: a three-to-four-year plan to cut transaction finality from 16 minutes to seconds and harden the network against quantum computers by 2029. Ether traded near $1,791 on Monday, July 6, up nearly 13% for the week.

Vitalik Buterin has unveiled Ethereum's new four-year roadmap. He described it as the protocol's biggest rebuild since twenty twenty two's Merge upgrade. Ether traded near one thousand seven hundred ninety one dollars on Monday, up nearly thirteen percent for the week. Ethereum had only two major structural shifts before this: its twenty fifteen launch and the twenty twenty two Merge. Slot time falls from twelve seconds to two, and finality drops to just a few seconds. Buterin calls this the third major era of the protocol, on par with the Merge. The first driver is competition from faster networks, pushing Ethereum toward much quicker transaction speeds. The second driver is the long term threat from quantum computing, driving a shift to quantum resistant cryptography. Bitcoin also climbed above sixty three thousand dollars, as US spot bitcoin ETFs returned to net inflows. Many Iranian traders follow ether and tether prices through domestic platforms such as Nobitex. Buterin wrote that almost every major piece of the protocol will be replaced. The timeline runs from a Berlin researchers meeting two weeks earlier to the July fourth unveiling. Part of the team is also exploring alternatives to the Ethereum Virtual Machine, such as the RISC-V architecture. The next thing to watch is the final schedule for the Hegota hard fork in the second half of twenty twenty six. Read the full analysis on Sahmino.
