Wednesday midday, 22 July 2026 (31 Tir 1405): the morning belonged to gold and the dollar, but the real intraday mover turned out to be oil. Brent rose about 2.5% to near $93 a barrel, its highest in more than a month. In Tehran the TEDPIX index stalled after two green sessions, hovering near 4,884,000, the free-market dollar held the 190,000-toman line, and gram gold and coins traded a touch higher. The Strait of Hormuz risk premium is keeping both oil and domestic inflation expectations alive.

Transcript

This morning everyone was watching the dollar and gold, but the number that actually jumped was oil. A barrel of Brent crude rose about two and a half percent today to near ninety three dollars, a one month high. The trigger was a renewed rise in regional tensions and the Strait of Hormuz risk premium. For Iran, pricier oil cuts both ways: more export revenue, but heavier inflation and currency pressure. At the same time, global gold, the Emami coin and gram gold all traded a touch above yesterday. Spot gold held near four thousand one hundred dollars, above the four thousand dollar line. The Tehran index opened up seven thousand points but slipped just below yesterday's close by mid session. The free dollar held near one hundred ninety thousand tomans, about twenty six percent above the official rate. Bitcoin and ether were slightly lower today and, unlike gold, did not follow the regional tension. Watch whether Brent holds above ninety two dollars, the dollar's reaction, and today's bourse close. The verdict is clear: today belonged to oil, not the dollar; the same Hormuz risk that lifts oil keeps inflation alive. So the day belonged to oil, not the dollar. Does pricier oil help Iran or hurt it more? Full analysis on Sahmino.com.
